Shopping List

Create a smart shopping list that auto-categorizes items as you type, just like Apple Reminders.

Creating a Shopping List

  1. Click + New Project in the sidebar
  2. In the project modal, select the Template dropdown
  3. Choose Shopping List
  4. Name it (e.g., "Groceries", "Trader Joe's Run")

Your shopping list is created with 19 pre-configured categories. None of them are visible yet — they appear as you add items.

Adding Items

Just type an item name and hit Enter:

  • milkDairy & Eggs
  • chicken breastMeat & Seafood
  • bananasProduce
  • toilet paperHousehold
  • creatineSupplements
  • ice creamFrozen

Common items are categorized instantly via a built-in cache. Unusual items like kombucha or tahini may take a moment while Cadeo's AI figures out the right category. If the AI can't confidently place an item, it goes to Other — you can drag it somewhere else if you'd like.

Quantities

Include quantities naturally — categorization is smart enough to ignore them:

  • 2 lbs chickenMeat & Seafood
  • 1 dozen eggsDairy & Eggs
  • 3 applesProduce

How Sections Behave

Shopping list categories only show up when they have at least one uncompleted item. Empty categories stay hidden until something lands in them. As you check items off:

  • The section disappears once all its items are completed
  • Completed items move to a Completed block at the bottom of the list
  • Toggle Show Completed (in the view settings ⚙️) to reveal or hide the Completed block

This pattern works well for groceries — the same items come around every week, so keeping completed entries out of the live list reduces clutter.

Tips

  • Drag to re-categorize: If Cadeo puts something in the wrong section, just drag it. The item will stay where you put it.
  • Custom categories aren't supported (yet): Shopping lists use the built-in 19-category set. For custom lists, use a regular project.
  • Works offline: Common items categorize instantly from a local cache. Unusual items that need the AI will fall back to "Other" if you're offline.
